CANON PERSONALITY:
To put it bluntly, Koga is an outspoken and harsh boy who, despite this, isn't good at being straightforward to others or even with himself. In other words, he runs hot and cold like a typical tsundere archetype. There's a perception of himself he wants to maintain and uphold while keeping others at bay from getting too close, because there's his more genuine self that can shines through under that rough exterior that can't successfully hide.
Upon first glance, Koga is a wild and rough-mannered young man. His way of speaking is both rude and arrogant (he's uses "ore-sama" to refer to himself, which is dramatically pompous), and he seemingly has little regard for others. In the main story, to escape the student council, he jumps on his classmates in the crowd like stepping stones, one of whom gets knocked out from getting stepped right on the head. What a great first impression. He dresses like a punk in his casual wear and his heavier customization of his uniform shows off an almost delinquent-like attitude towards order and formalities. Fittingly, the student he knocked out from stepping on her as mention earlier, Anzu (we'll go by the default name of the player character/"the transfer student" the canon gives us for convenience), is terrified of him at first and he notices with any delicacy, calling at her. The reason for this is that he's trying to match with the image he created for himself and as a passionate member of UNDEAD, one of the idol units, or groups within Yumenosaki Academy, a private high school meant to specially cultivate upcoming music idols. UNDEAD as a unit has a darker motif and claims to be the most rebellious and corrupt unit of the school. Again, it's an image they keep up for reasons related to fighting the school's messed up internal politics and hierarchy. Koga is aware of that, having been through the school's rougher time a year prior but not being deeply traumatized like others were.
Despite his wild personality, Koga is very dedicated to idol work. Back in the past he looked up to UNDEAD'S leader, Rei Sakuma. He was a lot like Koga's current personality, as Koga adopted it out of admiration after Rei changed his after a series of troubling events within Yumenosaki, much to the boy's disappointment. They also created a new idol unit after those events, but he can get easily exasperated with his unitmates in one way or another. Rei has become a cryptic old man who teases him and his temper constantly while still having charisma and superiority over him to stop Koga's outbursts. He doesn't get along much better with his senior Kaoru Hakaze because he skips out on classes and practice to go out with girls, also carrying an irritatingly easygoing personality (that doesn't like guys). He also messes with his junior for being so high-strung, who can find him insensitive and flippant in return. Adonis Otogari is the same year as Koga, but has a gentle, reserved personality despite his build. That annoys Koga, as they misunderstand eachother more than once and Koga tries to taunt him to become louder and more aggressive. It isn't happening. He's in the same sort of position in the light music club he's in after school, because the other two members, Hinata and Yuuta Aoi, are mischievous twins who are doted on by Rei, who's the leader. Koga doesn't get along easily with people, plain and simple. He's short-tempered and quick to become annoyed at those who judge him or who he think would. This is obvious in his interactions with Anzu, who is implied to not be very talkative and leaves a lot of her up to interpretation. His frustrations are easily made apparent by how vocal he is too, though he doesn't always get the real reasoning out, just the raw emotion and complaints.
The truth is that Koga is rather sensitive. It's what causes his outbursts to happen without warning, and be a rather easy target of teasing for his reactions. Some of his classmates go right for it and can easily manipulate him because he predictably reacts strongly. The Aoi Twins and Rei's brother Ritsu take advantage of this, as they don't have the seniority card the third years can pull. Koga's prideful and doesn't back down from a challenge. He's pretty competitive, which the Twins definitely take advantage of convince him to act out of pride. He also throws out threats to defend himself, though he doesn't act on those, most of the time by one way or another. He pushes people away under the reasoning he hates humans, claiming he's a wolf. There are things he's rather disappointed with in regards to society and isn't afraid to speak about them. In one story, he tells a classmate about selective breeding with dogs, being upset that those shallow enough to adopt based on trends are just as likely to soon abandon them. He would rather avoid facing disappointments with people he grows closer to as well. It had already happened with Rei, changing the dynamics of their relationship and interactions dramatically for the worse. This causes him to be seemingly slow to warm up to other people, but he's not as harsh to judge as others would think he is. It's just the bad attitude and rude language that's on the outside that makes him snappy, but only on a surface level. He also secretly wants to be depended on, because he's actually knowledgeable in some areas like animal care and rock music,; elsewhere he likes to do research so he can impress those he likes or admires. This is seen when he researches Halloween traditions to teach Adonis about them, only to sulk when Adonis says he knows about Halloween well because of his foreign background.
Koga tends to have a good deal of energy that's even something to tease him for (like he's a barking or energetic dog), but he he often puts it to good use elsewhere. Due to Yumemosaki's new system where participation and scoring in idol-related events affect a student's grades, he takes it very seriously. Of course, UNDEAD is not the most motivated to come out on top, often doing more... startling, edgier and more mature kinds of live shows meant to captivate the audience (and fangirls). This is because the scores are based on the response of the audiences and how many points they'll give a unit during a performance. It's acknowledging that the crowds are not going to to judge based purely on their skill, which UNDEAD takes full advantage of to rebel against this new system for the school. Rather than being competitive like Koga might want them to be, Rei notably uses their unit to stir up trouble for the system (without the audience catching on), as seen in the main story when they face off against Akatsuki, dragging down both of their point totals so that the underdog unit Trickstar can win. It leads to him getting frustrated with them, but he also puts a lot of effort into those performances. Koga does not seem to mind the varying themes of shows too much, happy for them to take what they can get. It's harder to keep the group together for live performances, but Koga like to seek opportunities that aren't mandatory by the school and funded by outside parties. He actually gets upset when things go awry, such as when the group gets signed up for a children's show at an amusement park than the nighttime performance. Koga is also a stickler about practice. It's implied that he doesn't have the raw talent Adonis or Kaoru have when it comes to being an idol, so he tries to compensate that way. He does genuinely like music and playing the guitar, so maybe subbing in passion for talent gets him close to their level. An easy way to set him off is when effort and hard work go to waste. One of the sources for a quick bout of his anger is feeling underappreciated by others, showing that he does seek some praise or recognition. However, he actually tries to hide the effort he can put in things out of fear of that.
Deep down, Koga is a pretty responsible and considerate person. He may claim otherwise, but he's actually rather attentive of others and is willing to help in any way he can. Of course, he doesn't change his gruff exterior, and he's not the most physically gentle. Due to how rough and unforgiving the idol industry can be, Koga sees no problem being frighteningly strict with training others. But he genuinely wants the underclassmen to take things seriously so that they and the school don't fall into depravity like it had before. He also gives praise where it's due, such as when two first-years, Tori and Tomoya, are able to understand and get the hang of his training from hell. While he does initially complain when he does things that aren't what he singed up for, he doesn't break promises and can adapt after some initial complaining. For example, UNDEAD does a butler cafe for the school festival, which he absolutely loathes, but can get into the part to help out Anzu. His adaptability also shows when he trains underclassmen Tomoya, when the running joke is that Koga is a brutal coach. Rabits and UNDEAD are near opposites when it comes to aesthetic and theme, but during a camping trip with the both of them, Koga is able to work with dancing a routine to music that fits Rabits' lighter motif better, to help encourage Tomoya with training instead of alienating him because of UNDEAD's reputation that Tomoya is afraid of. Even though they may clash in ideology and personality, he cares deeply for his fellow UNDEAD members and looks out for them. He offers them his aid in any way he can to help them out, even when he tries to hide it so that wouldn't think he's acting unlike himself. He even calls Adonis his close friend and assures him that he'd always stick with him when their seniors graduate. Despite his distaste for Kaoru's antics, he's the one who picks up on his trouble family situation and offers him a place to stay should he ever not want to return home for the night. The person he might be the most honest with is Anzu as their relationship improves during the course of the year. It's around her he slowly accepts that she sees him as a nicer person than he lets on, because she is straightforward and does not tease him.
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Koga is an ordinary human despite his claims that he's a wolf/werewolf. He does have a keen sense of smell though, so one of his talents is tracking people down. As a second year student in a school with a special course focused on training idols, and who actually practices consistently to maintain his skills, his athletic and musical ability is somewhat above average. His specialty on his bio is listed as electric guitar playing, and he considered to be very good at it by offhand mentions.

AU HISTORY:
LIFE BEFORE RECOLLE
-Koga is born from an affair between a single woman and a married man. His mother took full responsibility for their child, as the father had a newborn son with his wife, who was her friend. To not complicate matters she kept her distance and raised Koga on her own.
-They've moved a few times, from Japan to Recolle due to the social stigma. Koga's childhood up until late middle school were pretty good, and he loved his mother a good deal.
-She felt that she had to move out of Recolle only a few years later however, because she crossed paths with he former lover, who moved to Recolle with his family. Her health was also worsening from a condition, and reluctantly she returned to her family for support.
-Those years were the most difficult for Koga, who was frequently bullied by his older relatives. The were insistent that he was never going to be a part of the family proper, comparing him to a stray dog his family took in. His personality changed dramatically.
-His mother knew thankfully, and while she at first felt conflicted due to feeling indebted to her family, she and her son found a way to cope with the situation, pulling pranks on the family and supporting eachother.
-One of the pranks was in retaliation to the notion he and his mother were considered to be dogs. They learned to get back at them by befriending stray and neglected dogs to work with them and harass their family.
-Koga wanted to become a musician and get involved in the music industry. Playing music was how he and his mom stood out, as the rest of their family had little creative talent.
-Unfortunately the music industry is far from kind, and Koga was manipulated and used at his entry level job at a talent agency. This soured him on music considerably, and his mother was falling more ill by the day.
RECOLLE LIFE
-After having enough of empty promises by his job and eventually losing his mom, Koga quit, took what his mom left him, and ran away to Recolle because it was a place he remembered to be happier. It wasn't too rough for him, but he developed a harsh personality to protect himself.
-He's thinking of going to school soon (his mother left behind a fund for his tuition, she knew he was wanting a fresh start of sorts) but held off until after a year, opting to get back on his feet and figure out how to settle his life down a bit. Through some luck, he landed a job as a receptionist at a well-respected veterinary clinic. Through that he learned to become a bit more social towards others, as difficult as it may be.
-He cut off ties with his mother's family, but he became curious about his father's side. His mother was frank to him in his older years about his circumstances. She also tols him that there was someone on his dad's side that might accept him. his uncle Kei. Koga's half-brother also lives in Recolle, but he did not seek either of them out at first because of how complicated of a situation it would be.
-However, he does eventually meet his biological father and his wife through some coincidences. He met with them out of town, and in the end, he decided it wasn't worth it to keep any meaningful contact with them The father's mortified realization while his wife remained oblivious was worth the travel, at least.
-Currently, he's about to move into a living space that's shared with other people instead of being on his own. He would say that it's a marginal improvement and him being practical about rent, but he's actually looking forward to it. As a response how he and his mother had lived before and enduring the situation they felt stuck in, he likes new opportunities.

AU PERSONALITY:
-Different motivations! In canon, Koga wants the new unit UNDEAD to be just as prominent as the original one he was in with Rei, in hopes of reinvigorating his ideals from that time. In AU, Koga wants to find his calling while "surviving" to nonor his mom and spite his family, now living in an environment where he has to be more practical.
-Koga's perception of his social network is also different. In canon, his is contained to fellow students in Yumenosaki. In Recolle, his connections are from a bit more broader of a scope, from older friends who he may want to reconnect with, to those met at his job, to new roommates. This sets him up to be more impersonal in his interactions at first.
-He's definitely more "broken" than his canon counterpart, thanks to a rough past that is exclusive to his AU, since canon Koga was brought up more normally as far as players know. He downplays a lot of those experiences, but hey leave him very jaded in comparison to his more quietly hopeful counterpart.
-Canon Koga has a very well-intended consideration of others that's only harsh because of his personality, while in this AU, Koga can be a bit more vengeful and perhaps crueler, but not to harmful extents on others. This is from his coping methods to deal with his abusive relatives.
-In AU, his sensitivity manifests in a different way than in canon, where he's now more self-conscious of his hobbies toward others before getting defensive. It's born of the cynicism that his old job caused in him, so to avoid being hurt or mocked, he's a lot more low-key about about his passions. However, he has not completely given them up. He loves music and kept his electric guitar, and he also keeps up with music trends. In regards to his love for animals, he works at a vet because he can still be around animals and enjoy their presence.
